About Recraft MCP

Recraft MCP connects AI clients to Recraft image generation and editing features, including generating and iterating on visuals through chat.

What you can use it for

  • Generate illustrations, icons, and other images from a prompt.
  • Iterate on generated imagery and edit or transform existing visual inputs where supported.
  • Generate assets for a software project and save to configured local storage.

Authentication
Remote server uses OAuth browser authentication. Local server requires RECRAFT_API_KEY; the API key is created in the account API section. Keep it in local secret storage.

Requirements

  • Recraft account.
  • For local/API generation, API key and purchased API units/credits are required. Remote calls are billed/limited according to the user's account subscription/credits.
  • Local setup requires Node.js and npm/npx; optional IMAGE_STORAGE_DIRECTORY controls local output storage.

Setup steps

  1. For remote use, add https://mcp.recraft.ai/mcp to a client supporting remote HTTP and complete OAuth on first connection.
  2. For local use, add `npx -y @recraft-ai/mcp-recraft-server@latest` with RECRAFT_API_KEY in the client environment; optional IMAGE_STORAGE_DIRECTORY and RECRAFT_REMOTE_RESULTS_STORAGE control output storage.
  3. Claude Desktop users may install the published `.dxt` extension or configure the local server.
  4. Use a harmless request to generate a small test image, then confirm whether results are local files or remote URLs according to configuration.
  5. Do not expose API keys in prompts or source-controlled config.
Tools 9+

The nine stored names are a partial identifier set. Official docs describe local API-key server setup, while hosted OAuth endpoint docs do not provide a complete current hosted tools/list. Calls use account credits.
