About Alby Bitcoin Payments MCP

Connects an AI client to a Bitcoin Lightning wallet using Nostr Wallet Connect. Supports invoice and transaction operations, payment flows, LNURL, and L402-protected resources.

What you can use it for

  • Read wallet information and balances, list transactions, create/pay/look up invoices.
  • Convert fiat to sats, parse invoices, request invoices from Lightning addresses, and access L402 resources.

Authentication
Nostr Wallet Connect connection secret, sent as Bearer auth (preferred) or the documented `nwc` query parameter. Local stdio uses NWC_CONNECTION_STRING.

Requirements

  • NWC connection secret provided as Bearer authorization (preferred) or an encoded nwc query parameter; local STDIO uses NWC_CONNECTION_STRING.

Setup steps

  1. Connect to https://mcp.getalby.com/mcp using the documented authentication method.
  2. Use the official repository installation instructions: https://github.com/getAlby/mcp.
  3. NWC connection secret provided as Bearer authorization (preferred) or an encoded nwc query parameter; local STDIO uses NWC_CONNECTION_STRING.

The current official repo contains these 11 registered tools. Hosted and local transports use an NWC connection secret; tools can expose wallet data and initiate payments. Keep the NWC secret out of chat and review invoices before paying.

    Get information about the connected Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) wallet service.

Limitations and notes
  • Payment tools can move bitcoin; use only with a wallet connection whose permissions and limits you understand.
  • The remote service needs the wallet NWC connection secret.
  • pay_invoice and invoice-request workflows interact with a Lightning wallet; wallet authority and transaction limits depend on the linked NWC connection.
