About Vonage Documentation MCP

Vonage-hosted documentation server that lets AI clients search the official Vonage developer portal for API documentation, code examples, SDK information, troubleshooting, tutorials, and use cases.

What you can use it for

  • Search Vonage API docs and implementation guides without leaving an IDE
  • Generate Vonage API code snippets from documentation
  • Look up API endpoint, SDK, troubleshooting, tutorial, and use-case details
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint

Authentication
No authentication is documented for the documentation server.

Requirements

  • MCP-compatible client that supports remote HTTP MCP servers
  • No Vonage API credentials are required for documentation search

Setup steps

  1. Add a remote HTTP MCP server at https://documentation-mcp.vonage.dev/mcp.
  2. For VS Code and Cursor, Vonage's guide uses the MCP user-configuration flow and the server key `vonage-docs`; save and reload the editor.
  3. For Claude Desktop, the guide provides a remote server entry and asks you to restart Claude Desktop.
  4. Verify with a harmless documentation question such as asking how to authenticate to the Vonage API with Python.
Tools 7

The Vonage-owned documentation-server repository lists seven tools. Its public docs do not publish complete JSON input/output schemas; do not confuse this documentation-only server with Vonage’s separate API-bindings/tooling MCP.

Limitations and notes
  • This documentation server searches and returns developer documentation; it is separate from the API-bindings MCP that performs account actions. The published materials do not provide complete tool schemas.
Source discrepancies
  • The directory name maps to Vonage Documentation MCP, confirmed by Vonage's own repository and docs. Vonage's separate Tooling MCP is intentionally excluded. The current developer setup example uses type=http while older repository text says transport=streamable-http; clients may encode the transport differently, so use their native remote HTTP setting.
