About TomTom Maps MCP

TomTom's remote and local MCP server exposes geocoding, place search, routing, traffic, map rendering, and (with the Orbis backend) EV planning and geospatial visualization capabilities.

What you can use it for

  • Geocode or reverse-geocode addresses
  • Search places and nearby services
  • Calculate driving routes and multi-stop trips
  • Review traffic incidents and generate maps
  • Plan EV journeys and visualize GeoJSON when Orbis backend is selected

Endpoint

Authentication
Remote setup requires a TomTom API key. The exact client configuration uses the documented API-key credential; regional service/API access depends on the user's TomTom account.

Requirements

  • TomTom developer account and API key
  • MCP-compatible client
  • For local setup, see the maintained repository requirements

Setup steps

  1. For remote setup, add https://mcp.tomtom.com/maps to a supported MCP client and provide the TomTom API key according to the official Quick Setup guide.
  2. For local setup, follow the official GitHub repository instructions.
  3. Choose the TomTom Maps backend by default; Orbis Maps is a separate backend option and is marked public preview.
  4. Verify with a harmless geocoding or search request.
Tools 13

Replaced the stale 16-tool sample with the 13 tools on TomTom’s current official Available tools page, adding tomtom-poi-categories and removing waypoint routing, reachable range, static map and EV routing which are absent from the current list. Remote server is in public preview; map display tools require an MCP Apps capable client.

  • tomtom-geocode

Convert a street address to coordinates; does not search points of interest.

    01
  • tomtom-reverse-geocode

Convert coordinates to a street address.

    02
  • tomtom-fuzzy-search

Search addresses, points of interest and geographies with typo tolerance.

    03
  • tomtom-poi-search

Find points of interest by category.

    04
  • tomtom-nearby

Find points of interest within a radius of coordinates.

    05
  • tomtom-poi-categories

List point-of-interest category codes accepted by search tools.

    06
  • tomtom-area-search

Search for places inside a circle, polygon or bounding box.

    07
  • tomtom-search-along-route

Find points of interest along an origin-to-destination route.

    08
  • tomtom-ev-search

Find EV charging stations with connector types and power levels.

    09
  • tomtom-routing

Calculate a route with distance, travel time and traffic delay.

    10
  • tomtom-traffic

Look up traffic incidents in an area.

    11
  • tomtom-dynamic-map

Render an interactive map with custom markers, routes and polygons.

    12
  • tomtom-data-viz

Visualize GeoJSON data on a TomTom basemap.

Limitations and notes
  • Remote MCP and Orbis backend are in public preview.
  • tomtom-geocode does not support POIs; use search tools for POIs.
  • tomtom-dynamic-map may require MapLibre dependencies unless using Docker.
  • Orbis-only tool capabilities require selecting the Orbis backend.
