About Retool MCP

Retool's hosted MCP server lets authorized AI clients build and inspect Retool apps, work with organization users and settings, and manage connected resources.

What you can use it for

  • Build, import, inspect, and manage Retool apps
  • List and inspect resources and environment configurations
  • Audit organization users and workflows when authorized
  • Use selected resources in queries and app development
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted or self-hosted Retool instance
Transport
HTTP
Endpoint
https://<your-retool-instance>/mcp
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 with user-selected scopes. Scope availability is limited by the user's Retool permissions; some tools require Business or Enterprise plans.

Requirements

  • Retool cloud workspace or self-hosted Retool instance version 4.0.0 or later
  • MCP-compatible client
  • Appropriate Retool permissions; organization admin is required for mcp:admin scope
  • Plan eligibility for tools marked Business/Enterprise

Setup steps

  1. Replace <your-retool-instance> with the base URL of the organization's Retool instance and configure /mcp as an HTTP MCP endpoint.
  2. Start the OAuth flow in the client and select only the required scopes; complete sign-in and consent in the browser.
  3. Restart/reload the coding agent if required by the client.
  4. Inspect the connected tools list; tools are filtered by scopes, user permissions, and plan.
  5. Verify with a safe read-only action such as listing apps/resources. Obtain explicit human approval before any app publishing, user management, resource writes, query execution, or other mutations.

Limitations and notes
  • Public beta according to Retool's current documentation.
  • The endpoint is specific to the customer's Retool instance; there is no universal fixed endpoint.
  • Tool exposure is restricted by OAuth scopes, account permissions, and plan.
  • Some organization/admin tools need elevated scopes; audit logs require Business or Enterprise and group tools require Enterprise.
  • App building can consume Retool AI credits when Retool-managed keys are used; external development agents may have separate charges.
