About ThoughtSpot SpotterCode MCP

A ThoughtSpot-hosted MCP integration for developers building embedded ThoughtSpot applications. It provides official SDK/REST documentation lookup and, on the authenticated endpoint, can execute ThoughtSpot API workflows as the signed-in user.

What you can use it for

  • Look up ThoughtSpot REST API specifications, request/response formats and SDK references
  • Retrieve embedding, UI customization, deployment, security and best-practice documentation
  • Execute authenticated ThoughtSpot API workflows from an IDE as the signed-in user
  • Generate or configure embedded ThoughtSpot projects with current docs and API context
Connection and setup
Hosting
remote
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://spottercode.thoughtspot.app/mcp
Authentication
OAuth/SAML or bearer authentication through a ThoughtSpot instance for the full endpoint. A separate unauthenticated /mcp/docs endpoint exposes only the two documentation tools.

Requirements

  • For full /mcp endpoint: ThoughtSpot Analytics license and active ThoughtSpot Embedded subscription
  • ThoughtSpot instance credentials and user permissions for operations requested
  • MCP client; official setup lists Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot and Claude Code

Setup steps

  1. Choose the endpoint based on need: https://spottercode.thoughtspot.app/mcp for authenticated documentation and instance operations, or https://spottercode.thoughtspot.app/mcp/docs for unauthenticated documentation-only access.
  2. Add the selected URL as a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server. Claude Code example for the full endpoint: claude mcp add --transport http SpotterCode https://spottercode.thoughtspot.app/mcp. Cursor and VS Code setup are also documented by ThoughtSpot.
  3. For the authenticated endpoint, complete the ThoughtSpot authentication flow (OAuth/SAML or bearer token) and confirm access to the appropriate ThoughtSpot instance.
  4. Verify with a bounded request to retrieve the developer docs or REST API reference. Do not run execute-thoughtspot-code workflows that write, update, delete, or share resources without explicit user confirmation.
Tools 3

The primary documentation lists three exact tools for authenticated /mcp and two of those for /mcp/docs. The documentation endpoint exposes only the two docs tools. No dynamic runtime catalog was queried.

  • get-rest-api-reference

Retrieve REST API specifications, endpoints, request/response formats, authentication flows, CRUD operations and TypeScript/Java SDK references.

    01
  • get-developer-docs-reference

Retrieve ThoughtSpot developer documentation for embedding, UI customization, deployment, security and best practices.

    02
  • execute-thoughtspot-code

Execute authenticated ThoughtSpot API workflows directly against the user

    03
Limitations and notes
  • The full endpoint is an add-on requiring qualifying Analytics and Embedded subscriptions.
  • execute-thoughtspot-code runs with the authenticated user
  • The docs-only endpoint cannot execute instance operations.
  • SpotterCode does not replace the Visual Embed SDK, and highly specialized integrations may require manual coding.
  • No connection test was performed.
  • Requires a ThoughtSpot Analytics license with an active ThoughtSpot Embedded subscription for the full authenticated endpoint. execute-thoughtspot-code acts with the authenticated user’s permissions and may perform writes.
Original sources
  • official publisher documentation

Current docs list the authenticated /mcp endpoint with three tools, the unauthenticated /mcp/docs endpoint with two documentation tools, and the ThoughtSpot subscription prerequisite.

  • official setup guide

Current IDE setup guide documents the hosted endpoint and client configuration.
