About SQLite MCP Server (rusq)

Community-maintained local MCP server that opens a selected SQLite database file and provides schema, query, and execute tools. It is independent of the SQLite project.

What you can use it for

  • Inspect a local SQLite schema
  • Run read-only queries against a local database
  • Execute SQLite statements when explicitly intended
Connection and setup
Hosting
Local process; optional HTTP mode
Transport
stdio by default; HTTP mode also documented
Endpoint
Local process; no hosted endpoint documented
Authentication
No authentication for local stdio. HTTP mode uses a token for non-loopback access unless the unsafe no-auth option is explicitly enabled; do not expose unauthenticated HTTP mode.

Requirements

  • Go 1.26 or a compatible prebuilt release binary
  • A local SQLite database file
  • MCP client supporting stdio

Setup steps

  1. Install the release binary or use the documented command `go install github.com/rusq/mcp-sqlite/cmd/mcp-sqlite@latest` with a compatible Go toolchain.
  2. Configure the stdio server command and pass the intended database file according to the repository README. Use a copy or read-only file for initial inspection.
  3. Reconnect and confirm the documented tools `open_database`, `get_schema`, `query`, and `execute` are available.
  4. Use query for read-only inspection; execute can modify database contents. Do not enable remote HTTP access without its documented token protection.
Tools 4

The upstream README documents four tools: open_database, get_schema, query, and execute. No live tools/list was performed.

  • open_database

Open the configured SQLite database file.

    01
  • get_schema

    Inspect database schema.

    02
  • query

    Run a read-only SQL query.

    03
  • execute

Execute SQL statements that may change data.

Limitations and notes
  • Community project, not affiliated with SQLite maintainers.
  • execute can modify or delete data; use backups and least-privilege file access.
  • HTTP mode requires careful token configuration before any non-loopback use.
  • Requires a recent Go toolchain if installing from source; otherwise use a compatible upstream release binary.
