About Notion MCP

Notion's hosted MCP server connects AI clients to the authorized workspace for search, reading, page/database creation and updates, file handling, and other workspace workflows.

What you can use it for

  • Search Notion and connected sources, then fetch relevant pages
  • Create and update pages, databases, views and comments
  • Upload files and create attachments
  • Query data sources and meeting notes, subject to plan access
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted; mcp-remote stdio bridge is available for clients without remote HTTP support
Transport
Streamable HTTP (recommended); SSE fallback; stdio via mcp-remote bridge
Endpoint
https://mcp.notion.com/mcp
Authentication
Interactive OAuth authorization is required. The client can access only content permitted to the authenticated user and selected workspace; Enterprise admins can restrict approved AI clients.

Requirements

  • Notion workspace and account
  • MCP-compatible client supporting remote HTTP, or Node/npm for mcp-remote compatibility bridge
  • Enterprise workspace admins may need to approve the client in Settings ? Connections

Setup steps

  1. Configure https://mcp.notion.com/mcp as a remote HTTP MCP server (or use the client-specific Notion connector).
  2. Complete Notion OAuth in the browser and authorize the intended workspace. Noninteractive authorization is not currently supported for this hosted server.
  3. For clients without remote HTTP, use the documented mcp-remote stdio bridge pointed at the same URL.
  4. Refresh tool discovery after connect. Verify with a harmless search for a known page. Review permissions before enabling write or delete tools.

The stored 11 names are representative only. The official supported-tools page documents a broader catalog whose visible tools vary with connection type, admin-selected tools, plan, permissions, and enabled features.

    11

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • OAuth is required; noninteractive authorization is not yet available.
  • Access follows the user's Notion permissions. Enterprise governance can allowlist clients/tools.
  • AI search, advanced filters, meeting-note queries, and query limits depend on plan/Notion AI.
  • Hosted server supports file upload through an explicit flow, not arbitrary local filesystem access.
  • Notion's separate open-source notion-mcp-server is no longer actively maintained; this entry covers the hosted Notion MCP product.
Source discrepancies
  • A separate open-source notion-mcp-server repository is deprecated/unmaintained. This record refers only to Notion's hosted mcp.notion.com service.
