About Scam Shield MCP

A public financial-entity screening MCP server that checks broker or investment-site names and URLs against BrokerChooser's aggregated scam database, which incorporates warnings from financial regulators and official watchdogs.

What you can use it for

  • Check whether a broker or investment platform is legitimate
  • Check a trading website or financial app by name or URL
  • Support financial fraud prevention and due diligence
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote, BrokerChooser-hosted
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://mcp.brokerchooser.com/servers/mcp
Authentication
No authentication is required for the general MCP endpoint. A separate ChatGPT deep-research connector endpoint is restricted to owners/admins of paid Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspaces; users must authenticate after workspace activation.

Requirements

  • MCP client with Streamable HTTP support
  • For the ChatGPT deep-research connector: paid ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace and workspace owner/admin setup

Setup steps

  1. For a compatible MCP client, configure Streamable HTTP endpoint https://mcp.brokerchooser.com/servers/mcp. No credentials or environment variables are documented for this endpoint.
  2. For Claude Desktop where direct remote configuration is unavailable, use the documented npx mcp-remote wrapper with the same endpoint.
  3. Restart or reload the client if required and use a harmless broker-name or domain legitimacy check.
  4. For ChatGPT deep research, a workspace owner/admin creates the connector using https://mcp.brokerchooser.com/servers/deep-research/safety; users authenticate before first use.
Tools 1

The published unauthenticated runtime tools/list snapshot recorded one tool, is-broker-scam-tool. The current first-party vendor page remains the source for its endpoint, no-auth general access, separate ChatGPT workspace connector, and rate limits; this refresh did not invoke the tool.

  • is-broker-scam-tool

Retrieves information to determine whether a broker is legitimate or a scam. This tool can look up brokers using either their company name or website URL. It returns verification data, scam reports, regulatory status, and trustworthiness indicators to help assess the broker's credibility. Use this tool when users ask about broker reliability, safety, legitimacy, or want to verify if a specific broker is trustworthy before investing or trading.

Limitations and notes
  • Rate limit: 10 requests per minute per MCP session and 60 requests per minute per IP address.
  • The company offers higher-volume commercial limits by contacting mcp@brokerchooser.com.
  • ChatGPT connector is unavailable on free ChatGPT plans and requires paid Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace admin activation.
  • The vendor says checks are stateless and do not store personal or conversational data.
Original sources
  • official vendor mcp docs

BrokerChooser documents general endpoint and separate ChatGPT connector setup, limits, and stateless behavior.

  • live runtime tools list

Previously captured unauthenticated tools/list response contains one tool; no tool invocation performed.
