About Rootly MCP

A hosted or self-hosted MCP server for Rootly incident response, alerting, on-call, schedules, workflows, and post-incident operations.

What you can use it for

  • Review incidents and alerts
  • Find related incidents and suggested remediation from historical data
  • Manage on-call schedules and response workflows
  • Configure Rootly resources and conduct post-incident reviews
Connection and setup
Hosting
Both: hosted or local
Transport
Streamable HTTP (hosted or self-hosted); Code Mode (experimental); SSE deprecated
Endpoint
https://mcp.rootly.com/mcp
Authentication
Hosted OAuth2 browser sign-in is recommended; a Rootly API token can also be passed as Bearer. Tool availability follows token/user/team permissions. Full, slim and configured profiles may expose different tools; self-hosted write tools can be disabled.

Requirements

  • Rootly account and permissions for hosted OAuth
  • For local: Python 3.12+, uv, Rootly API token
  • Client supporting remote MCP/OAuth for the hosted service, or local stdio/Docker configuration

Setup steps

  1. Hosted: connect to https://mcp.rootly.com/mcp and complete Rootly OAuth2 sign-in; use ?tool_profile=slim for the approximately 70-tool profile.
  2. Code Mode is an alternative at https://mcp.rootly.com/mcp-codemode.
  3. For self-hosting, store ROOTLY_API_TOKEN securely and configure write access and tool allowlists deliberately.
  4. The full tool set includes writes to incidents, alerts, schedules, workflows and platform resources; review account scope and action before execution.
Tools 26+

26 names are explicitly published for the incident-response subset plus get_server_version; this is not the full catalog. Rootly documents a dynamic full surface (about 200+ tools) and a ~70-tool slim profile. Default hosted endpoint is /mcp; Code Mode /mcp-codemode is an alternative; SSE is deprecated and scheduled for removal after 2026-11-20.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • The hosted tool list is dynamic and profile-dependent: repository documents about 218 full tools and about 70 slim tools; this record lists only representative named tools, not the full catalog.
  • Writes depend on permissions and server settings; some operational tools may have destructive or high-impact effects.
  • Code Mode is marked experimental.
  • Local self-hosting and hosted service are different deployment choices.
Original sources
  • official documentation

Current Rootly docs describe the hosted classic Streamable HTTP server with a full dynamic OpenAPI-generated surface (about 218 tools in the repo docs, commonly summarized as 200+), an approximately 70-tool slim profile, and a separate experimental Code Mode endpoint. Added the 25 exact incident-response subset names published by the maintainer plus get_server_version from its custom tool list. The complete full/specific profile depends on hosted version, configuration, permissions and auth; this catalog’s 26 rows are a documented subset, not a complete total.
