About Redis MCP

Redis-maintained local MCP server connects agents to a configured Redis database for string, hash, list, set, sorted-set, stream, pub/sub, JSON and vector operations.

What you can use it for

  • Inspect and query Redis data
  • Manage Redis key/value data through configured tools
  • Connect agents to Azure Managed Redis with documented Entra ID authentication
Connection and setup
Hosting

Transport
stdio
Endpoint
Local process; no hosted endpoint documented
Authentication
Redis connection URL or equivalent host/port/password options; use Redis ACL with least privileges.

Requirements

  • Python package runner uvx, or another installation method documented by Redis.
  • A reachable Redis deployment and its connection information.

Setup steps

  1. Run the official package with `uvx --from redis-mcp-server@latest redis-mcp-server` for the documented stdio setup.
  2. Configure the target Redis host and connection options using documented variables such as REDIS_HOST, REDIS_PORT, REDIS_DB, REDIS_USERNAME, REDIS_PWD, and REDIS_SSL; use REDIS_URL when the documented URL form is preferred.
  3. Keep credentials in the MCP clients protected local environment configuration. Do not place them in prompts or catalog data.
  4. Restart the MCP client, confirm initialization and tool discovery, and use a harmless read-only query against a non-sensitive key to check functionality.
Tools 53

Crawl4AI checked the official Redis MCP docs and current source modules. All 53 @mcp.tool registered functions are recorded; availability can depend on Redis version, features, and server package version.

Limitations and notes
  • Official server currently documents stdio transport; database writes are possible, so configure Redis ACLs deliberately.
  • Redis Docs MCP at redis.io/mcp is a separate documentation-only server.
