Authentication
The public hosted server README shows URL-only configuration and does not specify an authentication step. Self-hosting requires database connection credentials and OPENAI_API_KEY for ingesting and embedding documentation.

Requirements

  • MCP client supporting remote HTTP for hosted endpoint
  • For local self-hosting: Bun/Node build environment, PostgreSQL with pgvector, credentials and OPENAI_API_KEY; documentation corpus must be ingested/indexed

Setup steps

  1. Hosted: add `https://mcp.tigerdata.com/docs` as a remote MCP server; use the client-specific configuration documented in the repository.
  2. Alternatively, Codex supports `codex mcp add --url "https://mcp.tigerdata.com/docs" pg-aiguide`; Gemini CLI supports `gemini mcp add -s user pg-aiguide "https://mcp.tigerdata.com/docs" -t http`.
  3. For local self-hosting, follow DEVELOPMENT.md: provision PostgreSQL with pgvector, configure database credentials and OPENAI_API_KEY, build with the project scripts, ingest and index the documentation, then configure the local stdio or HTTP server.
  4. Reload the client and verify with a read-only search for a PostgreSQL feature.

Limitations and notes
  • The public hosted instance is operated by TigerData; source README distinguishes this hosted service from local self-hosting.
  • The repo also distributes agent skills and a Claude plugin; those are separate from MCP capabilities.
  • Local self-hosting does not include a preloaded documentation corpus; ingestion and indexing are required.
