About Mixpanel MCP

Mixpanel's hosted MCP server gives AI clients governed access to product analytics for event, funnel, flow, retention and replay analysis, plus dashboard, Lexicon, cohort, experiment and feature-flag workflows.

What you can use it for

  • Analyze events, funnels, flows, retention and user replay data
  • Build and update dashboards and saved metrics
  • Inspect or update Lexicon event/property descriptions, tags and PII classifications
  • Manage cohorts, experiments and feature flags
  • Review data quality issues and audit log
Connection and setup
Hosting
remote
Transport
Not documented
Endpoint
Local process; no hosted endpoint documented
Authentication
Interactive OAuth using each user's Mixpanel login; alternatively service-account header auth is documented as beta. Existing project roles apply. Service-account secrets are only shown once and must be stored as secrets, not pasted into chat.

Requirements

  • Mixpanel account with access to the intended project
  • Organization admin must enable MCP under Settings ? Org ? Overview except newer Free/Growth accounts created after 2026-08-01, where enabled by default; changes may take up to 15 minutes
  • For service-account auth, Owner/Admin creates a service account and grants required project access
  • Some capabilities are beta or account-gated

Setup steps

  1. Choose the regional endpoint for the data region.
  2. Have an organization admin enable MCP when required.
  3. Add the hosted endpoint in the client as a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server and complete OAuth in the browser.
  4. For Codex CLI, add [mcp_servers.mixpanel] url = "<regional MCP endpoint>" to ~/.codex/config.toml, then run codex mcp login mixpanel. For Codex UI, add a Streamable HTTP server in Settings ? MCP Servers.
  5. For Claude Code, official command is claude mcp add --transport http mixpanel <regional endpoint>; run /mcp and complete browser OAuth.
  6. Verify using a harmless project/event discovery query. Do not use destructive or modifying tools as a connection test.
  7. Optional beta service-account auth uses Authorization: Bearer Basic <base64 credentials>; keep secret in environment/secret manager. Notion Agent does not support service-account custom headers.
Tools 64

The official current MCP reference enumerates 64 tools. Tool availability is account/project permission scoped; experiments and feature flags are open beta, while audit log is limited beta and requires an organization admin/owner. Mixpanel records write actions in its audit log.

Limitations and notes
  • MCP access is scoped to each user's existing project permissions; it does not elevate access.
  • The connected AI provider receives Mixpanel data; admins should review downstream provider data handling.
  • Mixpanel states the MCP is not currently HIPAA-supported and is not covered by its BAA.
  • Experiments and feature-flag tools are beta; audience targeting and cohort editing are not supported in those beta tools.
  • Audit Log tool is limited beta access.
  • New Free/Growth accounts created after 2026-08-01 have MCP enabled by default, but Free plans can have Query API access limits.
  • Separate docs-only MCP at https://docs.mixpanel.com/mcp is not this product-analytics server.
