Authentication

Mapbox access token via MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN, with API scopes specific to each tool; public remote MCP tools/list is not anonymously available.

Requirements

• Mapbox account
• Mapbox token with scopes needed by intended tools
• Node.js for local server

Setup steps

1. Hosted: connect to https://mcp-devkit.mapbox.com/mcp using client hosted MCP setup.
2. Create a Mapbox token in account settings with least privileges needed.
3. Local install options are documented in repository; configure MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN.

Current Mapbox official source registers exactly 23 core tools. Public MCP tools/list requires Mapbox token authentication. Style/token operations can create, update or delete account resources; tools require specific scopes. Interactive preview UI resources and reference resources are separate MCP capabilities, not additional tools.
