About Pydantic Logfire MCP

Pydantic-hosted MCP service for querying OpenTelemetry traces and metrics in Logfire and managing observability resources such as dashboards, alerts, issues, and managed variables.

What you can use it for

  • Query and analyze traces, logs, spans, and metrics with SQL
  • Investigate exceptions and application behavior
  • Inspect accessible projects and create links to Logfire UI
  • Manage observability resources and feature-flag-like managed variables when permitted
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote, vendor-hosted; self-hosted endpoint can be used with a self-hosted Logfire instance
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://logfire-us.pydantic.dev/mcp
Authentication
Browser OAuth on first connection. A Logfire API key as a bearer token is documented for headless/CI usage. Choose US or EU endpoint to match the Logfire data region.

Requirements

  • Logfire account/project with access to desired telemetry
  • Browser for interactive OAuth, or appropriately scoped Logfire API key for headless clients
  • Organization policy may restrict external MCP access, read/write capabilities, and query budgets

Setup steps

  1. Choose https://logfire-us.pydantic.dev/mcp for US-region data or https://logfire-eu.pydantic.dev/mcp for EU-region data.
  2. Configure the remote Streamable HTTP endpoint in a supported client.
  3. Authenticate in the browser when prompted; for Claude Code, official docs use claude mcp add --transport http logfire <endpoint> then claude mcp login logfire. For Codex, use codex mcp add logfire --url <endpoint>.
  4. For Claude Code or Codex, the official Pydantic plugin can configure the MCP alongside Logfire skills.
  5. Check accessible projects with a harmless query before inspecting traces. Respect organization read-only policy and avoid exposing sensitive telemetry in prompts.
Tools 53

The Pydantic guide documents 53 named tools across query, projects/auth, feedback, dashboards, variables, groups, alerts, channels, schedules, issue tracking and local development. agent-feedback is restricted by plan/policy; organization read-only policy and credential scope affect available calls.

Limitations and notes
  • Available tools depend on credentials and organization external-MCP policy.
  • Logfire Cloud imposes concurrent-query limits and a daily organization query budget for MCP queries.
  • Telemetry can contain user-controlled content; treat query results as untrusted data rather than instructions.
  • The former pydantic/logfire-mcp local stdio repository is archived and no longer updated; the current supported service is remote.
  • Some resource management tools write or delete data; organization admins can restrict external clients to read-only access.
