About Linear MCP

Linear's hosted MCP server connects AI clients to Linear data and workflows for finding, creating, and updating issues, projects, and comments.

What you can use it for

  • Find and summarize issues and projects
  • Create or update issues, comments, and project planning data
  • Work with initiatives, milestones, updates, and labels
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://mcp.linear.app/mcp
Authentication
OAuth 2.1, bearer token, or Linear API key; read-only endpoint is /mcp/readonly.

Requirements

  • Linear account and workspace
  • MCP client supporting remote Streamable HTTP or a documented mcp-remote bridge
  • Workspace permissions sufficient for requested data/actions

Setup steps

  1. Add https://mcp.linear.app/mcp as a remote Streamable HTTP server.
  2. Complete browser OAuth sign-in and approve access.
  3. For read-only access, use https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly or request only the read OAuth scope.
  4. Confirm the server appears connected; start with a read-only search before enabling writes.
Tools 5+

These five identifiers are examples only. The hosted toolset is evolving and permission-sensitive; /mcp/readonly or a read-only OAuth scope restricts access to read tools.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Write operations can change workspace data.
  • Available tools and access depend on authenticated user permissions.
  • The legacy /sse endpoint is deprecated; use Streamable HTTP /mcp for new setups.
