About install.md MCP

A hosted platform that turns structured integration guides into remote MCP servers. Guides provide an overview, searchable/fetchable documentation context, and guide-specific ordered step tools for coding agents.

What you can use it for

  • Give coding agents a concise sequence for integrating an SDK, API, CLI or framework.
  • Provide project-specific context and troubleshooting tips from connected documentation, repositories or files.
  • Create and maintain reusable integration guides; Admin MCP supports guide management.
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote; guide-specific MCP endpoint is generated for each published project
Transport
Streamable HTTP (publisher Admin MCP documentation); generic guide endpoint is remote MCP, exact protocol transport not named in product setup guide
Endpoint
https://install.md/mcp/try
Authentication
Public guide pages provide MCP endpoints; the dedicated Admin MCP at https://install.md/mcp/admin requires an API key in Authorization: Bearer header. Do not use Admin MCP credentials for public guide connections.

Requirements

  • For a public integration guide: use its published install.md/<team>/<project> URL as the remote MCP server URL.
  • For managing install.md projects through Admin MCP: install.md account and API key; organization/team features may require Pro plan.

Setup steps

  1. Choose the published guide URL for the project you want an agent to follow (for example, https://install.md/installmd/nextjs); add that URL as a remote MCP server in the client.
  2. Start the project-specific workflow using the slash prompt shown on its guide page, or ask the agent to start the named integration.
  3. The generic preview endpoint https://install.md/mcp/try is for trying the service; the actual guide tool surface depends on the selected project and its configured steps/tips/data sources.
  4. Only for guide authoring/administration, use https://install.md/mcp/admin with a locally stored install.md API key; this is a separate privileged Admin MCP endpoint.
Tools 13+

The exact stored endpoint https://install.md/mcp/try returned 13 tools in tools/list (anonymous admin/demo project manager). Per-guide generated MCP servers have a separate dynamic inventory: three generic guide tools plus ordered step tools; do not combine those with this endpoint count.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Tool inventory is dynamic and differs by published guide; no single fixed complete tool list exists.
  • Some team collaboration and analytics capabilities depend on plan; publisher says personal projects are free and organization teams require Pro.
  • Admin MCP is a separate privileged endpoint requiring an API key; do not expose it as a normal end-user guide connection.
  • A public guide's instructions are authored by its project owner and may vary in quality; verify implementation steps against the target project's primary docs.
