About Glif MCP

Glif's hosted creative MCP lets an AI client create and revisit media projects for image, video, audio, and related workflows using a connected Glif account.

What you can use it for

  • Create media from a natural-language brief, including images, video, and audio.
  • Check generation job status and retrieve media links.
  • Browse and resume saved Glif projects and account skills.
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted service
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://glif.app/api/mcp
Authentication
OAuth 2.1 browser sign-in with a Glif account is the documented default. A bearer API token from Glif account settings is supported for plain HTTP clients. Media generation uses credits from the signed-in account; connecting the server itself is free. Claude web custom connectors require a paid Claude plan per Glif's setup page.

Requirements

  • Glif account.
  • MCP client supporting remote Streamable HTTP and OAuth 2.1, or a locally secured bearer token for plain HTTP client setup.
  • Glif credits for media generation.
  • For Claude web custom connectors, a paid Claude plan is required.

Setup steps

  1. Add remote server URL https://glif.app/api/mcp using a client setup recipe from Glif's official install page.
  2. For Codex CLI, the repository documents: codex mcp add glif --url "https://glif.app/api/mcp", then codex mcp login glif.
  3. For Claude Code, the repository documents: claude mcp add --scope user --transport http glif https://glif.app/api/mcp. Claude web/desktop custom connector uses Settings ? Connectors ? Add custom connector.
  4. Complete the browser OAuth sign-in and approve access to the Glif account. For HTTP clients that use token authentication, obtain a Glif API token from https://glif.app/settings/api-tokens and store it as a bearer secret in client configuration.
  5. Reload the client and inspect the live tool list. A read-only account/project check is a safer verification than a generation call, which consumes credits.
Tools 4+

The current stored four-tool inventory is retained as a publisher-documented tool set; no current public hosted tools/list or newer first-party tool reference was available during this source check. Treat availability as potentially version- and account-dependent.

  • compose_project

Start a media project from a natural-language creative brief; returns a job ID and project URL. Generation consumes account credits.

    01
  • get_job_status

Check the status of a generation job and retrieve the resulting media links.

    02
  • list_user_skills

List saved skills in the connected Glif account.

    03
  • get_user_skill

Retrieve a saved Glif account skill.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • The hosted service runs on glif.app and is not open source. The GitHub repository's MIT license applies to its plugin, skills, and registry metadata, not the hosted MCP service.
  • Tool catalog is dynamic and the reviewed docs do not publish a complete tools/list; only exact names specifically surfaced in first-party docs are listed.
  • Generating media consumes Glif credits. Read-only account/project operations are documented as free.
  • Claude web custom connectors require a paid Claude plan.
  • For host_not_allowed or upload failures in Claude, Glif documents allowlisting api.cloudinary.com.
  • The old local stdio package @glifxyz/glif-mcp-server is explicitly deprecated and is not the current implementation. No runtime connection test was performed.
Source discrepancies
  • A previous local stdio package and current hosted service are separate generations; publisher marks the former deprecated. This record covers the current hosted service only.
  • GitHub repository license describes code/skills/plugin only. Hosted service license is not asserted.
Original sources
  • publisher repository readme

Publisher repository says current server is hosted at glif.app/api/mcp using Streamable HTTP and OAuth 2.1, supports bearer API token for plain HTTP clients, documents client-specific commands, calls legacy local stdio server deprecated, names compose_project/get_job_status and points to live tools/list; states hosting is not open source.

  • official publisher setup and product docs

Official install page documents server URL, Claude connector browser OAuth flow, paid Claude plan requirement for custom connectors, generation credit consumption, compose_project intelligence tiers, list_user_skills/get_user_skill names, and troubleshooting including api.cloudinary.com domain allowlisting.

  • official credential management url

Publisher README links this first-party account settings page as the source for bearer API tokens.

  • official pricing reference

First-party docs direct users to Glif pricing for credit usage; no numeric price was copied or inferred.
