About Firebase MCP

Google's local Firebase CLI MCP server lets AI development clients inspect and manage Firebase projects and app configuration, with additional product-specific tools, prompts, and resources.

What you can use it for

  • Inspect Firebase project configuration and SDK settings
  • Work with Firestore, Authentication, Storage, and other enabled Firebase products
  • Generate or validate security rules and investigate Crashlytics issues
Connection and setup
Hosting
Local; some tools proxy to Firebase-hosted backends
Transport
stdio
Endpoint
Local process; no hosted endpoint documented
Authentication
Sign in through Firebase CLI with firebase login; tools require authenticated access, and some operations require a selected Firebase project. Google Cloud/Firebase permissions still apply.

Requirements

  • Node.js and npm for npx setup
  • Firebase CLI authentication
  • A Firebase/Google Cloud project for project-specific operations
  • Appropriate IAM/project permissions

Setup steps

  1. Add command npx with arguments -y, firebase-tools@latest, mcp.
  2. Sign in with firebase login (Firebase Studio documents firebase login --no-localhost for its terminal flow).
  3. Select or initialize the intended project; review the active project before requesting changes.
  4. Inspect tool list and permissions. Start with a read-only request such as firebase_get_environment or firebase_list_projects. Obtain explicit confirmation before initialization, security-rule changes, or deployment.
Tools 7+

These seven identifiers are only a subset. The official CLI can generate the complete current roster; exposed tools vary by feature group, CLI release, project services and authenticated local context.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • The server has tools capable of creating projects, modifying users/configuration, initializing services, and deploying; review exact effects and obtain user approval for external changes.
  • Some Firebase product tools proxy requests to remote services even though the MCP process runs locally.
  • Tool availability depends on CLI version, Firebase products, authentication, and project permissions.
