About DigitalOcean MCP

DigitalOcean's official suite of separate remote MCP servers exposes product-specific management and documentation tools for its cloud infrastructure and AI platform.

What you can use it for

  • Manage App Platform, Droplets, Kubernetes, databases, functions, storage, and networking
  • Query account details and service insights
  • Manage GenAI inference, model catalog, knowledge bases, evaluations, and vector databases
  • Search DigitalOcean documentation
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted suite of separate service endpoints
Transport
Remote HTTP MCP; current exact transport subtype not specified in the setup documentation reviewed
Endpoint
https://mcp.digitalocean.com/mcp
Authentication
OAuth recommended; DigitalOcean API bearer token also supported. MCP Router exposes find_tools, retrieve_schema, invoke_tool and dispatches to product service endpoints. The docs endpoint is unauthenticated; Knowledge Bases uses a separate endpoint.

Requirements

  • DigitalOcean account for authenticated services
  • MCP client supporting remote MCP and OAuth or bearer headers
  • Select only the service endpoints needed; there are separate endpoints by product

Setup steps

  1. Choose the specific product server from DigitalOcean's official endpoint table; do not treat the suite as one endpoint.
  2. Add that remote URL in the MCP client. For OAuth, omit the Authorization header and complete browser sign-in; for API-token auth, use Authorization: Bearer <token> in protected client config.
  3. The Documentation server at https://docs.mcp.digitalocean.com/mcp is public and does not require an API token.
  4. The official documentation says remote services are configured in mcp.json and explicitly notes they do not use claude mcp add, environment variables, or local executables for Claude. Follow other clients? official remote-connector setup.
  5. Reload the client and verify with a harmless read-only query before using resource-management tools.
Tools 282+

DigitalOcean MCP Router exposes three MCP tools: find_tools, retrieve_schema, invoke_tool. The 282 catalog rows are service-level operation identifiers from the maintainer repo, not the router’s MCP tools/list; endpoints and credentials vary by service.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Each product is a distinct MCP endpoint and can require different permissions/scopes; choose the service-specific documentation.
  • Most servers grant potentially destructive infrastructure access consistent with token/OAuth permissions; follow least privilege and confirm write actions.
  • The official docs state remote services do not use local stdio commands or claude mcp add for Claude setup.
  • Documentation endpoint is unauthenticated; other endpoints require OAuth or API-token authentication.
Source discrepancies
  • The supplied name ?DigitalOcean? aggregates many separate remote services. It is recorded as an umbrella listing with endpoint null and no combined tool names to avoid pretending the suite is a single server.
Original sources
  • official tool reference

DigitalOcean recommends a router exposing find_tools, retrieve_schema, and invoke_tool, which discovers and invokes tools across individual service MCP endpoints. Existing 282 names are underlying service operation identifiers from the repo, not the router MCP tools/list; service access and exposure vary by endpoint.
