About DeepWiki MCP

DeepWiki's hosted MCP server retrieves documentation generated for public GitHub repositories and answers repository questions grounded in that documentation.

Authentication
No authentication required for public repositories. Private repository access is provided through the separate Devin MCP server and requires a Devin account/API key.

Requirements

  • MCP client supporting remote Streamable HTTP
  • Public GitHub repository to query; private repos require Devin account and separate service

Setup steps

  1. Add https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp as a remote HTTP MCP server (most clients use url).
  2. For Devin Desktop, use serverUrl instead of url, per official client-specific docs.
  3. For Claude Code, official command: claude mcp add -s user -t http deepwiki https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp.
  4. Reload/restart the client if required.
  5. Call read_wiki_structure for a repository, then read_wiki_contents or ask_question; verify the repository owner/name.

Limitations and notes
  • Public DeepWiki server is for public repositories; private repo access requires a Devin account and distinct Devin MCP server.
  • SSE endpoint is legacy and documented as being deprecated; use Streamable HTTP.
  • Answers depend on generated repository documentation and may not reflect the latest source until the wiki is updated.
