About Daytona MCP

Daytona local CLI MCP connects agents to isolated Daytona sandboxes for files, Git, process/code execution, computer use and previews.

What you can use it for

  • Create/manage development sandboxes and work with files and Git.
  • Run processes/code, use computer controls and create previews.
Connection and setup
Hosting

Transport
stdio
Endpoint
Local process; no hosted endpoint documented
Authentication
Run daytona login; CLI stores account authentication.

Requirements

  • Install Daytona CLI; vendor documents Homebrew for macOS/Linux and a PowerShell installer for Windows.
  • Daytona account and API access.

Setup steps

  1. Install Daytona CLI using the official platform-specific instructions.
  2. Run `daytona login` and complete the account authentication flow.
  3. Run `daytona mcp config` to view generated MCP settings, or `daytona mcp init` for a supported agent.
  4. For clients without an initializer, use the documented stdio command `daytona mcp start`; on Windows follow the documented APPDATA requirement.
  5. Inspect tools/list and avoid destructive sandbox actions without confirmation.

Limitations and notes
  • Use the current v0 guide; older v2 docs describe an alpha release. Exact tool roster depends on installed CLI release.
Original sources
  • official vendor cli reference

    Daytona documents `mcp config`, `mcp init`, and `mcp start` CLI commands.

  • official publisher documentation

Daytona official v2 guide calls the release alpha and describes tool families; launch article covers sandbox and development-environment operations.

  • official publisher repository

  • official documentation

Current official general MCP guide (v0) documents `daytona mcp start`, `daytona login`, local stdio setup and sandbox/file/Git/process/code/computer-use/preview capability groups. The v2 page is explicitly alpha; neither page enumerates exact tool IDs.

  • official tool reference

Daytona-published Go module reference includes an Available Tools section with these MCP identifiers. The reference was published 2026-10-29; this is a documented tool list, not a live account tools/list capture.
