About Datadog MCP

Datadog-hosted remote MCP provides access to observability data and selected operations across products such as APM, logs, metrics, monitors, dashboards and security signals.

What you can use it for

  • Search/query logs, metrics, traces, monitors, incidents and dashboards
  • Investigate observability issues
  • Use product-specific toolsets where enabled
Connection and setup
Hosting
remote
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://mcp.datadoghq.com/v1/mcp (US1; endpoint varies by Datadog site)
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 is recommended. PAT/SAT bearer token or DD_API_KEY plus DD_APPLICATION_KEY headers are documented alternatives. Endpoint varies by Datadog site.

Requirements

  • Datadog organization/site with MCP Server available
  • User or service-account permissions for intended resources
  • Remote HTTP MCP client

Setup steps

  1. Select the correct Datadog site in official setup docs and use its displayed endpoint; do not reuse another region
  2. Add endpoint as remote HTTP MCP and complete OAuth in browser.
  3. Use toolsets query parameter to restrict tool groups; configure only required permissions.
  4. Verify tools in client; check org-level write access and resource role permissions for writes.
Tools 3+

Current official docs list core and product toolsets and warn the inventory is under active development. The three stored names are verified examples only, not a full tools/list inventory; product permissions and selected toolsets determine available calls. execute_code runs agent-authored JavaScript in a managed sandbox under the user’s Datadog permissions.

  • search_datadog_events

    Search Datadog events.

    01
  • get_datadog_incident

    Retrieve incident details.

    02
  • execute_code

    Execute JavaScript in Datadog-managed sandbox.

    03

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Endpoint is site/region dependent; exact URL must be taken from Datadog site selector.
  • Not GovCloud compatible per docs.
  • Documented fair-use limits: 50 requests per 10 seconds and 100,000 monthly calls, subject to change.
  • Write tools may be hidden unless organization and role enable write access.
Original sources
  • official product overview

Documents product scope, data permissions, usage telemetry and rate limits.

  • official setup guide

Documents client setup, OAuth/API key options and regional endpoint selection.

  • official tool reference

Current Datadog tool reference documents toolsets and permissions, labels tools as actively changing, and confirms execute_code runs code in a Datadog-managed sandbox with user permissions.
