About Baserow MCP

Baserow’s built-in MCP server exposes workspace-scoped database tools for listing databases and tables, reading schemas and rows, and creating, updating, or deleting rows.

What you can use it for

  • Browse a Baserow workspace
  • Inspect database/table schemas
  • Search and read rows
  • Create, update, or delete rows when explicitly authorized
Connection and setup
Hosting
Baserow Cloud or self-hosted Baserow instance
Transport
Streamable HTTP over HTTP; legacy SSE endpoint also documented
Endpoint
https://api.baserow.io/mcp
Authentication
OAuth is recommended where enabled; alternatively create a workspace endpoint key and use it as a bearer token. Self-hosted OAuth requires BASEROW_MCP_OAUTH_ENABLED=true.

Requirements

  • An active Baserow workspace and an MCP-compatible client.
  • For self-hosting, an ASGI-enabled Baserow backend; OAuth also requires public backend URL and reverse-proxy routing when accessed remotely.

Setup steps

  1. In Baserow, open My settings > MCP server. Choose the OAuth tab to connect by OAuth, or create an endpoint on the Endpoint tab and copy the generated URL/key. The generated endpoint key grants access to the selected workspace and should be handled like a password.
  2. For Baserow Cloud, use the documented Streamable HTTP endpoint https://api.baserow.io/mcp. For a self-hosted instance, use <PUBLIC_BACKEND_URL>/mcp; do not substitute a local URL when the MCP client cannot reach that machine.
  3. In the MCP client, add a remote HTTP server using the URL shown in Baserow’s MCP settings. Complete OAuth in the client, or configure the endpoint key as a bearer credential using the client’s secure credential mechanism.
  4. Reconnect the MCP client and inspect tools/list. The official test plan says the default OAuth grant initially selects read tools; explicitly grant write operations only if needed.
  5. To verify safely, list databases/tables or inspect a table schema. Do not use create_rows, update_rows, or delete_rows as a connection test.
Tools 21

Expanded the old seven-tool snapshot to Baserow’s 21 currently documented enabled tools. Endpoint grants select which tools are exposed; workspace isolation is enforced. Some registered tools are disabled and hidden.

Limitations and notes
  • Tool access is limited to the workspace and tools granted to the endpoint/OAuth connection.
  • create_rows, update_rows, and delete_rows modify user data; they must not be used for harmless connectivity checks.
  • Self-hosted OAuth availability and externally reachable URLs depend on server configuration.
  • No MCP initialize, tools/list, or representative tool call was performed for this catalog entry.
