About Aiven MCP

Official Aiven MCP server connects AI assistants to Aiven Cloud to inspect and manage projects, PostgreSQL, Kafka, applications, logs, metrics, pricing, and related services.

What you can use it for

  • Inspect Aiven projects, services, plans, metrics and logs
  • Manage PostgreSQL and Kafka resources
  • Deploy or redeploy containerized applications
Connection and setup
Hosting
both: hosted remote service and local stdio package
Transport
Streamable HTTP (hosted); stdio (local)
Endpoint
https://mcp.aiven.live/mcp
Authentication
Hosted service uses Aiven OAuth; user permissions govern access. Read-only mode and tool scopes can narrow tools/list.

Requirements

  • Aiven account
  • Aiven authorization for hosted mode or API token for local mode
  • Node.js 18+ for local package

Setup steps

  1. Remote: add https://mcp.aiven.live/mcp in an MCP client that supports remote HTTP servers, then authorize with Aiven.
  2. Optional read-only remote mode: append ?read_only=true. Tool scopes can be narrowed with services_scope query parameter.
  3. Local: run npx -y mcp-aiven and provide AIVEN_TOKEN through the MCP client’s secure environment configuration.
  4. For hosted service, use the marketplace-specific path when subscribed through AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Marketplace.
Tools 51+

Current publisher README enumerates 51 named tools. Runtime toolset varies by category scopes and read-only setting; hosted-only docs_search is absent in self-hosted deployments. Service/topic/database/application write tools can change or delete resources and data. Read-only mode excludes write tools.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Aiven actions can create, modify, or delete services and data; read-only mode and write allowlists can restrict writes.
  • The available tools depend on selected service scopes and hosted versus self-hosted mode.
  • The connection-info tool can expose credentials and is disabled unless AIVEN_ALLOW_SECRETS=true; it is also disabled in read-only mode.
