Authentication
X-API-Key (also X-VARIFLIGHT-KEY or query api_key); OAuth 2.1 PKCE/Dynamic Client Registration supported by compatible clients. API-key region/account generated via VariFlight console.

Requirements

  • VariFlight account and API key
  • Usage billed in credits; new accounts receive ?50 trial credits
  • Official npm package @variflight-ai/variflight-mcp for local stdio

Setup steps

  1. Create a key in the VariFlight console and store it securely; the full key is shown only once.
  2. Configure the Streamable HTTP endpoint with X-API-Key, or use OAuth where the client supports it.
  3. For local stdio, run npx -y @variflight-ai/variflight-mcp and set VARIFLIGHT_API_KEY.
  4. Call getTodayDate before interpreting relative travel dates; use IATA city/airport codes and limit/detail for large results.
  5. Check balance before data-heavy requests; tool calls spend credits.
