About PageIndex MCP

PageIndex document-intelligence MCP retrieves and reasons over already indexed long documents, with document discovery, folder structure, search, document structure, page content, images, processing, and deletion operations.

Requirements

  • For hosted retrieval, an active PageIndex Cloud account/API key and documents already submitted and indexed
  • Local package requires Node.js 18 or later
  • MCP-compatible client

Setup steps

  1. For developer-hosted use, create an API key in the PageIndex Developer Dashboard and add https://api.pageindex.ai/mcp as a remote HTTP server with Authorization: Bearer <API_KEY>.
  2. Upload and index documents first through PageIndex SDK/API; the hosted MCP is the retrieval layer and does not ingest files by itself.
  3. For PageIndex App OAuth, use https://app.pageindex.ai/mcp in an OAuth-capable client.
  4. For local PDF upload, configure command npx with args [-y, @pageindex/mcp] as documented by the maintainer repository; local setup requires Node.js 18+.
  5. Reload client and verify with a read-only document listing/search, then fetch a specific document section.

Limitations and notes
  • Documents must be uploaded and indexed before MCP retrieval; PageIndex Chat and developer API document spaces are separate.
Source discrepancies
  • The publisher exposes separate developer-cloud, end-user App, and local package connection paths. Their data spaces and authentication differ, so the record keeps them explicitly separated.
