About Optimizely Experimentation MCP

Optimizely-hosted remote MCP for querying projects, flags, experiments and results; managing experimentation entities; and searching SDK documentation to generate implementation guidance.

What you can use it for

  • Query projects, flags, experiments, environments and results
  • Compare environment configurations
  • Create/update/archive flags, experiments and audiences with confirmation
  • Find SDK documentation and generate implementation guidance
Connection and setup
Hosting
remote
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://exp.mcp.opal.optimizely.com/mcp
Authentication
OAuth 2.0 via Opti ID and selected Opal instance in browser; existing Optimizely account permissions apply.

Requirements

  • Opti ID
  • Optimizely account with Opal enabled and at least one Feature or Web Experimentation instance connected
  • Remote MCP client

Setup steps

  1. Add the endpoint as a Streamable HTTP remote MCP server.
  2. Invoke an Optimizely tool to trigger OAuth if client does not start auth immediately.
  3. Sign into Opti ID and select/connect the Opal instance.
  4. Verify by asking to list accessible Optimizely projects.
  5. Review explicit confirmation carefully before creating or modifying live entities.
Tools 8+

Stored eight names are a documented tool subset. The official remote service supports querying, creating and updating experimentation entities across Web and Feature Experimentation; OAuth permissions and account data apply. Exact live tools/list requires authenticated Optimizely access. Write calls can change flags and experiments.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Creating or updating entities changes live data; agent confirmation and user review required.
  • For Web Experimentation, variation-level HTML/CSS/JS changes are not supported through MCP; use Visual Editor.
