About Kagi MCP

Kagi's official MCP server provides web search and full-page content extraction to compatible AI clients through Kagi's API.

What you can use it for

  • Search the web, news, videos, podcasts, or images with optional filters and Kagi lenses.
  • Extract full page content as Markdown for follow-up analysis.
Connection and setup
Hosting
Both: hosted Kagi endpoint and local Python package
Transport
Streamable HTTP, stdio
Endpoint
https://mcp.kagi.com/mcp
Authentication
Kagi API key using Bearer authorization for the hosted service, or KAGI_API_KEY in local stdio configuration. OAuth 2.0 is not currently supported by the server.

Requirements

  • A Kagi API key from the Kagi dashboard.
  • For local installation, the official repository recommends uv/uvx.
  • For hosted remote use, an MCP client must support custom Authorization headers.

Setup steps

  1. Get a Kagi API key from the Kagi dashboard.
  2. For remote use, add https://mcp.kagi.com/mcp over Streamable HTTP and set `Authorization: Bearer <KAGI_API_KEY>` in the client's secure header settings.
  3. For local stdio, use the official `uvx kagimcp` command and provide KAGI_API_KEY through the client's environment configuration.
  4. Authenticate/authorize by supplying the API key; OAuth login is not supported.
  5. Verify with `kagi_search_fetch` or `kagi_extract`.
Tools 2

Kagi maintainer README lists two hosted MCP tools: kagi_search_fetch and kagi_extract. Older fastgpt/summarizer tools are removed.

  • kagi_search_fetch

Search web, news, videos, podcasts, and images, with optional page extracts, filters, and Kagi lenses.

    01
  • kagi_extract

Fetch a page's full content as Markdown.

Limitations and notes
  • OAuth 2.0 is not supported yet; API key authentication is required.
  • Hosted use requires a client capable of setting the Bearer Authorization header.
  • The prior kagi_fastgpt and kagi_summarizer tools are removed; future return is only planned.
  • API access and limits depend on the Kagi account/API plan.

Kagi-maintained repository lists exactly kagi_search_fetch and kagi_extract for the hosted endpoint. Previous kagi_fastgpt and kagi_summarizer tools have been removed. Kagi API key required.
