Hugging Face's hosted MCP connects AI clients to Hub models, datasets, Spaces, papers, documentation search, and optionally selected community Gradio Spaces.

Authentication
Configure while logged into Hugging Face; documentation for Spaces MCP requires a Hugging Face token with read permission. Per-client settings page generates the intended configuration and selected tools.

Requirements

  • Hugging Face account and read token for authenticated Hub/Spaces access
  • Remote Streamable HTTP-capable MCP client
  • Optional: select community Spaces/tools in Hugging Face MCP settings

Setup steps

  1. Open https://huggingface.co/settings/mcp while signed in and choose the target MCP client.
  2. Copy the client-specific generated configuration rather than assuming one shared auth/config format.
  3. Select only desired Hub tools and community Spaces, then save and restart/reload the client.
  4. Verify with a read-only search of a public model or dataset before enabling write/job operations.
Tools 1+

hf_fs is the built-in general Hub tool. Optional tools for repository contribution, sandboxes, jobs, and user-selected community Spaces make the exposed catalog account-configurable.

Limitations and notes
  • Spaces tools are community-built Gradio apps and may have their own behavior, permissions, quotas, and safety considerations.
  • Job/sandbox and repository contribution tools can create or modify remote resources; select tools intentionally.
  • Tool availability changes with the settings page selections and experimental features.
