Authentication

OAuth in supported interactive clients; API-key authentication is available for unattended agents. OAuth scope mcp:read is required; write operations additionally require mcp:write.

Requirements

• Honeycomb team with Honeycomb Intelligence enabled.
• Remote MCP-capable client.
• Use https://mcp.eu1.honeycomb.io/mcp for EU region teams.
• API-key mode requires a team owner to create a Management API key with Model Context Protocol and Environments scopes.

Setup steps

1. Enable Honeycomb Intelligence for the team.
2. Add the US MCP URL https://mcp.honeycomb.io/mcp, or the EU URL https://mcp.eu1.honeycomb.io/mcp.
3. Authenticate via the client's browser-based OAuth flow and grant the requested scopes.
4. For unattended use, create a Management API key in Account > Team Settings > API Keys with Model Context Protocol and Environments read permissions; grant write only when needed and store it in the client's secret mechanism.
5. Verify by listing tools or fetching workspace/environment metadata. If no tools appear, check that Honeycomb Intelligence is enabled and the account has the necessary scope.
