About Guru MCP

Guru’s hosted MCP provides permission-aware search and verified answers from a Guru knowledge base and connected sources, plus draft creation and card updates.

What you can use it for

  • List Knowledge Agents and ask them questions for cited answers.
  • Search Guru cards and connected documents.
  • Create draft cards and suggest updates to existing cards.
Connection and setup
Hosting
remote
Transport
Not documented
Endpoint
https://mcp.api.getguru.com/mcp
Authentication
OAuth for user-facing clients; API token option for integrations/automation.

Requirements

  • Guru workspace and access to Knowledge Agents
  • OAuth client may need Guru Support allowlisting
  • For API-token auth, generate a token in Guru Admin > API Tokens for a user or service account
  • Access follows existing Guru role, Knowledge Agent, source, collection and card permissions

Setup steps

  1. Add remote Streamable HTTP endpoint https://mcp.api.getguru.com/mcp in the MCP client.
  2. Choose OAuth, sign in to Guru and approve access; contact Guru Support if the client redirect URI is rejected and needs whitelisting.
  3. Alternatively configure an Authorization header `Bearer <EMAIL>:<TOKEN>` using an API token generated under Guru Admin > API Tokens; use a secure local secret store.
  4. Select or expose the intended Knowledge Agent in Guru if required by the workspace setup.
  5. Verify with a harmless question or card search; results are permission-aware and queries are logged in Guru AI Agent Center.
  6. Do not register a Guru OAuth2 Client for ordinary MCP login; that flow is for custom API integrations.
Tools 5+

Current official Guru docs describe five capabilities (List Knowledge Agents, Ask, Search, Create Draft, Update Card), but do not publish exact MCP identifiers. The capability labels are not treated as tool IDs; access follows Guru role permissions and the publisher may add tools.

  • guru_answer_generation

Ask a Guru Knowledge Agent a question and return an answer with sources; may return a pending status.

    01
  • guru_get_card_by_id

Retrieve a Guru card by ID.

    02
  • guru_get_pending_answer

Retrieve a Guru answer that is still pending generation.

    03
  • guru_list_knowledge_agents

List Knowledge Agents available to the authenticated workspace.

    04
  • guru_search_documents

    Search Guru cards and documents.

    05

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Role-based access applies to all results; tools can evolve over time. The capability table uses human-readable labels rather than exact identifiers.
