About EAN-Search.org MCP

Connects an AI assistant to EAN-Search.org product data to look up EAN, GTIN, UPC, and ISBN barcodes or find product barcodes by keyword.

What you can use it for

  • Look up the product associated with a barcode from an inventory list or invoice.
  • Find barcodes by product name, title, brand, or artist.
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote and local
Transport
Streamable HTTP (remote); stdio (local fallback)
Endpoint
https://www.ean-search.org/mcp
Authentication
Remote interactive clients use OAuth 2.1. For server/script clients, send the EAN-Search API key as an Authorization: Bearer token. The local fallback reads EAN_SEARCH_API_TOKEN. An EAN-Search account with API access is required; calls count against account API quota.

Requirements

  • EAN-Search.org account with API access
  • For local fallback: Python >=3.13 and uv/uvx
  • An API key for non-interactive or local authentication

Setup steps

  1. Preferred hosted path: add https://www.ean-search.org/mcp as a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server.
  2. Complete the EAN-Search.org OAuth login and consent prompt in the client browser. For non-interactive use, configure Authorization: Bearer <EAN_SEARCH_API_KEY> using the client secret store or local environment.
  3. For a local fallback, run uvx eansearch-mcp-server with EAN_SEARCH_API_TOKEN set locally; the publisher documents this for Claude Desktop.
  4. Confirm availability with a harmless lookup_product request for a user-provided barcode. Do not include the API key in chat or source control.
Tools 2

The current vendor guide explicitly says the server provides these two tools and documents each input and behavior.

  • lookup_product

Look up a product from an EAN, GTIN, UPC, or ISBN barcode; returns product name and category when available.

    Parameters: barcode
    01
  • find_products

Find products by name keywords and return matching barcodes and categories.

    Parameters: keywords
    02
Limitations and notes
  • Requires an EAN-Search.org account with API access; requests consume that account's API quota.
  • OAuth is recommended for interactive users; API-key bearer auth is intended for servers/scripts.
  • Local package metadata requires Python >=3.13. The publisher recommends the hosted endpoint where supported.
  • Tool results depend on database coverage and exact product-name spelling.
  • No tool scopes or numeric quota limits were found in the cited setup guide.
Original sources
  • official tool reference

Current vendor page enumerates lookup_product(barcode) and find_products(keywords), accepted code formats, response data and search behavior.

  • official repository

Publisher-owned repository identifies its official local stdio server and gives Claude Desktop config with EAN_SEARCH_API_TOKEN.

  • package metadata

PyPI lists package eansearch-mcp-server 0.1.0, Python >=3.13 and MIT; release provenance points to the eansearch GitHub repository.

  • official announcement

Publisher announcement identifies the hosted server and Streamable HTTP plus OAuth 2.1; current detailed setup is taken from the updated guide.
