About Canva MCP

Canva's remote MCP server lets authenticated AI assistants search, create, edit, export, and collaborate on Canva designs, with available actions limited by each user's Canva permissions and plan.

What you can use it for

  • Search and retrieve designs/pages/folders
  • Generate and edit designs
  • Manage design assets, folders, and brand kits
  • Export designs and add comments
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote hosted
Transport
Streamable HTTP (remote)
Endpoint
https://api.canva.com/connect/v1/mcp
Authentication
OAuth; each user authenticates individually.

Requirements

  • Canva account for each user
  • MCP-compatible assistant/client
  • For custom integrations, a Canva Developer Portal app with Canva MCP enabled, or an approved CIMD redirect URI
  • Paid Canva plan for some brand/autofill/resize features

Setup steps

  1. For personal Canva AI Connector setup, follow Canva's Help Center instructions for the selected AI client.
  2. For a custom integration, create an app in Canva Developer Portal, enable Canva MCP, configure redirect URLs, and use the resulting OAuth credentials; if using a CIMD client without a secret, submit its redirect URI for allowlisting.
  3. Complete per-user Canva OAuth authorization. The tools available reflect the signed-in user's permissions over designs and assets.
  4. Check Canva's MCP tools and rate limits reference. Pro and above is required for resize, autofill, brand kits and brand templates; all plans include most core capabilities.
Tools 46

The official tool reference lists 46 named tools across assets, autofill, brands, comments, designs, exports, images, folders, resize, edit transactions, and help. Actual availability depends on plan and user permissions; Canva advises clients to discover tools dynamically.

Limitations and notes
  • This is a remote service; no local npm server is documented for this implementation.
  • Developer documentation is aimed at teams building/integrating AI assistants; personal users should follow the separate Canva AI Connector setup.
  • Users authorize individually and see only resources they can access.
  • Pro and above is required for resizing, autofill, brand kits, and brand templates; some free-plan trials apply.
  • Canva documents per-tool rate limits and a default per-user cap of 300 requests per minute.
