About Base Wallet MCP

Coinbase's hosted Wallet MCP connects compatible AI clients to a Coinbase/Base Account for wallet, portfolio, transaction-history and onchain operations across supported networks.

What you can use it for

  • Inspect the connected wallet and token portfolio
  • Resolve token symbols to contract addresses and decimals
  • Review transaction history
  • Prepare token sends, swaps, signatures, batched contract calls, and x402 payments subject to user approval

Endpoint
https://wallet-mcp.coinbase.com
Authentication
OAuth / Base Account authorization is prompted in the client on first wallet use. Write, swap and signing operations require separate approval through Coinbase Wallet.

Requirements

  • MCP-compatible client supporting remote HTTP MCP and OAuth
  • Coinbase/Base Account for authorization
  • Coinbase Wallet approval for write, swap, and signing actions

Setup steps

  1. Add a remote MCP server named Base MCP at https://wallet-mcp.coinbase.com using the client's remote-server flow.
  2. Complete the Coinbase/Base Account authorization prompt on first use.
  3. Confirm setup with a harmless request to list the user's wallets.
  4. For writes, swaps or signatures, review and approve the action in Coinbase Wallet; do not treat configuration as permission to transact.
Tools 13+

Updated the documented tool sample with currently named wallet capabilities including chain_rpc_request, web_request, initiate_x402_request and complete_x402_request. The first-party guide describes the operations but does not provide one fixed complete tools/list; keep the list partial. Every wallet write/payment requires user approval.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • The live MCP tool catalog can change; use server discovery for the current complete list.
  • Transaction writes are consequential and irreversible onchain; user must inspect and approve each request.
  • Swaps are not available on testnets.
  • Some x402 payments require wallet signature approval and are better suited to larger purchases.
  • Old endpoint https://mcp.base.org is retained for existing connections; new setup should use https://wallet-mcp.coinbase.com.
Source discrepancies
  • Discovery queue label ?Base Blockchain? is broad. Research identifies the relevant official Base implementation as Coinbase Base Wallet MCP; tool catalog is explicitly dynamic, so the documented list is partial.
