About Asana MCP Server V2

Asana's hosted V2 MCP server lets AI clients search and read workspace objects and create, update, comment on, or delete tasks and projects, subject to the authenticated user's permissions.

What you can use it for

  • Search workspace tasks, projects, portfolios, teams, and AI teammates
  • Review project and portfolio status
  • Create, update, comment on, or delete workspace tasks
Connection and setup
Hosting
Remote, cloud-hosted
Transport
Streamable HTTP
Endpoint
https://mcp.asana.com/v2/mcp
Authentication
OAuth browser authorization; MCP apps do not use scopes, and access follows the selected workspace and signed-in user permissions.

Requirements

  • Asana account and access to a selected workspace
  • Compatible MCP client and browser for OAuth

Setup steps

  1. Add the V2 endpoint as a remote MCP server, complete OAuth in the browser, select a workspace, then verify with get_me or search_objects. Use tools/list for current schemas.
Tools 27

The current Asana V2 tool reference enumerates all 27 stored identifiers. Asana says the list can change; client tools/list is authoritative for current schemas. User permissions constrain access.

Limitations and notes
  • search_tasks requires Asana Premium.
  • MCP access is workspace-scoped and follows the authorized user's permissions.
  • delete_task permanently deletes tasks and eligible subtasks.
  • Interactive preview tools are documented for Claude and ChatGPT; other clients use standard write tools.
  • The V1 endpoint was scheduled for shutdown August 5, 2026; use V2.
