About Apify MCP

Apify's hosted MCP server lets AI clients discover and run Apify Store Actors, retrieve run data and storage outputs, and search Apify documentation. Actor tools are dynamically selected and authenticated.

What you can use it for

  • Search the Apify Store and inspect Actor schemas, README, and pricing
  • Run permitted Actors and retrieve their outputs
  • Access Apify storage and run details
  • Search and read Apify platform documentation
Connection and setup
Hosting
Both: hosted remote server and local stdio server
Transport
Streamable HTTP (hosted); stdio (local)
Endpoint
https://mcp.apify.com
Authentication
Hosted OAuth recommended; bearer API token is supported. The account-free URL variant only exposes selected discovery/docs tools. Local stdio requires `APIFY_TOKEN`.

Requirements

  • MCP-capable client
  • Apify account/token for Actor execution and run/storage access; discovery/docs-only selection can work without an account
  • Node.js 18 or newer for local server

Setup steps

  1. Recommended: add `https://mcp.apify.com` as a remote server and complete browser OAuth.
  2. For account-free discovery/docs-only access, configure the exact restricted tool query documented by Apify: `?tools=search-actors,fetch-actor-details,search-apify-docs,fetch-apify-docs`.
  3. For local mode, configure `npx -y @apify/actors-mcp-server` and provide `APIFY_TOKEN` as a local secret environment variable.
  4. Use the Apify configurator or `apify mcp install <client>` for client-specific selection. For predictable production configuration, explicitly select tools in the URL rather than relying on defaults.
  5. Review Actor identity, permissions, pricing, and maximum run limits before execution. Verify first with `search-actors`; do not run an Actor until the user has approved the intended Actor and cost.
Tools 19+

Apify documents built-ins across actors, docs, runs, storage, schedules and dev, plus dynamically selectable Actor tools. Configuration controls categories/Actors and execution/storage operations require authentication; these rows capture documented built-ins, not every possible configured tools/list.

Limitations and notes
  • Actor execution, storage, and run-data operations require authentication.
  • Full-permission and rental Actors are excluded from MCP discovery/execution.
  • Default service limit is documented as 30 requests per second per user; honor 429 retry responses.
  • Actor usage may incur charges; inspect pricing and set run limits such as maximum total charge.
  • Do not allow an agent to run or abort Actors without explicit user approval.
