About Oh My Posh MCP

An official hosted validator for Oh My Posh theme configurations. It accepts JSON, YAML, or TOML and reports schema errors, warnings, and recommendations.

What you can use it for

  • Validate an Oh My Posh theme config against the official JSON schema.
  • Find invalid configuration paths and receive deprecation warnings or recommendations.
  • Check JSON, YAML, and TOML theme files before using them.
Connection and setup
Hosting
remote
Transport
Streamable HTTP / HTTP (publisher docs use transport: http)
Endpoint
https://ohmyposh.dev/api/mcp
Authentication
No authentication required; the official guide describes anonymous access.

Requirements

  • An MCP client supporting a remote HTTP MCP endpoint.
  • A theme configuration string in JSON, YAML, or TOML.

Setup steps

  1. Add a remote MCP server named oh-my-posh-validator with URL https://ohmyposh.dev/api/mcp and HTTP transport.
  2. Reconnect the MCP client.
  3. Call validate_config with content set to the configuration text and optionally format set to json, yaml, toml, or auto.
  4. Review returned valid/errors/warnings/detectedFormat/parsedConfig. If auto-detection fails, the publisher recommends setting format explicitly. No connection test was performed.
Tools 1

The official Oh My Posh MCP server exposes only validate_config for JSON, YAML and TOML theme validation.

  • validate_config

Validate Oh My Posh theme configuration content against the official JSON schema, with errors, warnings and recommendations.

Limitations and notes
  • Validation uses the latest schema from the main branch; properties added recently may not be recognized by older Oh My Posh versions.
  • The service receives the configuration string for validation; the publisher states it is processed in memory and not stored or logged. Avoid submitting unrelated secrets.
  • This MCP server validates theme configuration; it is not the Oh My Posh shell prompt renderer itself.
  • No authentication or rate-limit details beyond the documented anonymous service were found.
  • No connection test was performed.
