Authentication

OAuth via Client ID Metadata Documents, or environment API key as Bearer token for non-interactive clients.

Requirements

• A Nango account and environment.
• An environment API key created in Nango dashboard > Environment Settings > API Keys.
• An MCP client supporting Streamable HTTP and configured authorization headers.

Setup steps

1. In the Nango dashboard, open Environment Settings > API Keys and create an environment API key with only the scopes the agent needs.
2. Configure the MCP client to connect over Streamable HTTP to `https://mcp.nango.dev/mcp` and send `Authorization: Bearer <NANGO_API_KEY>` using a secure environment-backed header facility.
3. Restart/reload the client and inspect the management tool list.
4. Start with read-only integration/connection inspection. Creating integrations, connect sessions, or deployments changes the Nango environment; obtain user confirmation before such actions.
5. Keep this Management MCP separate from Nango’s runtime Tool-Calling MCP at `https://api.nango.dev/mcp`; the latter requires different credentials and connection headers.

The current Nango Management MCP reference lists 22 identifiers with permissions and notes authentication-mode differences. This is separate from the runtime server at https://api.nango.dev/mcp.
