Requirements

• For function context, connect it to an MCP client that supports local stdio servers

Setup steps

1. Add a local stdio MCP server named date-fns with command npx and args ["-y", "@date-fns/mcp"].
2. In VS Code, use project-level `.vscode/mcp.json` with a `servers` entry; in Claude Code use project `.mcp.json` or the documented user-scope CLI command.
3. In Claude Desktop, add the same command and args to its MCP configuration and restart the app.
4. Verify by calling list_fns; it returns the currently enumerated date-fns function signatures.

The date-fns-maintained repository currently describes the MCP server as work in progress and documents a local stdio package. The one stored tool, list_fns, remains a single documented/runtime catalog entry; the repo does not publish a complete detailed schema reference.
