About Convex MCP

Official Convex CLI MCP for inspecting deployments, schemas, data, functions, logs, health insights, and environment variables.

What you can use it for

  • Inspect a deployment’s schema, data, functions, logs, and health.
  • Run deployed functions or manage environment variables when the selected target and flags permit.
Connection and setup
Hosting
Local
Transport
stdio
Endpoint
Local process; no hosted endpoint documented
Authentication
Uses authenticated Convex CLI credentials or a deployment-scoped CONVEX_DEPLOY_KEY.

Requirements

  • Node.js/npm/npx
  • Convex project/deployment; authenticate with Convex CLI or use a scoped deploy key

Setup steps

  1. Run `npx -y convex@latest mcp start` from a Convex project directory.
  2. The default deployment is development; use documented CLI options to select another deployment.
  3. For least privilege, set a deployment-scoped CONVEX_DEPLOY_KEY.
  4. Reload the client and inspect tools/list. Production writes and PII are restricted by default.
Tools 12+

The current Convex CLI reference lists 12 tools. Tool access depends on deployment target and safety flags; production data, PII, environment-variable reads, and writes are restricted by default.

    08
  • envList

List environment variable names, optionally including values when permitted.

    09
  • envGet

Read a deployment environment variable when permitted.

    10
  • envSet

Create or update a deployment environment variable when permitted.

    11
  • envRemove

Remove a deployment environment variable when permitted.

This server’s available tools can vary by account, permissions, or configuration. The list shown is not its full runtime catalog.

Limitations and notes
  • Production deployments are disabled by default; enabling them can permit writes and PII access.
  • Using global credentials can expose multiple projects unless a scoped deploy key is configured.
  • The insights tool is unavailable when started with CONVEX_DEPLOY_KEY.
